Robert Wright is an evolutionary renaissance man. His ability
to utilize evolutionary strategies in the interpretation of
human history, natural selection, the existence of God, nuclear
disarmament, American politics, and anything else he turns his
attention to, have made him a highly sought-after writer,
speaker, and journalist. Wright's first book, The Moral
Animal: Why We Are the Way We Are, is a tour-de-force
overview of evolutionary psychology, and his most recent book,
Nonzero: The Logic of Human Destiny, argues that human
cultural evolution can be understood as the inevitable, logical
outgrowth of biological evolution. Wright boldly, and
optimistically, concludes that this evolutionary action must
ultimately lead to increasing levels of human social and
environmental cooperation—on a planetary scale. He
generously agreed to speak with WIE's Carter
Phipps—in what we hope will be the first of many
conversations to come—about the state of American society and the future of American politics. So stay tuned.
